Anderson races to classic win

THE first race in this year’s Rye Summer Classic Series has been won by Daniel Anderson.

The Hastings AC runner took the 10K title in a quick time of 32 minutes 49 seconds in the rain at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.

Anderson was just 14 seconds outside the course record which has stood for five years.

Runner-up Jeff Pyrah broke the course record for Vet 40s, and Karen Bowler knocked around six minutes off the ladies’ vet six course record set in 2008.

Juliet Sukoco from Hailsham Harriers was first lady home in 43.16, while Hastings AC won the men’s team prize. There were a total of 155 finishers.

Race two in the series - the first of two 5Ks - takes place on Friday August 17 at 7pm.
