BASKETBALL: Brame makes 200th Thunder appearance

WORTHING THUNDER club co-captain James Brame celebrated his 200th game for Worthing Thunder on Saturday when they beat Worcester Wolves 86-84.

Brame, now in his ninth season at Thunder, is the first player in the club's history to play 200 games.

He has been captain for the past five seasons when they have twice won the EBL title and they are now in a play-off position in the BBL.

Before the game on Saturday, Brame was presented with a trophy marking his achievement from Worcester Wolves assistant coach Chris Mayes, who fulfilled a similar role for Thunder during the title-winning seasons.

Club director and assistant coach Alan Sweetman-Hicks said: "In the current climate, where players chase a bigger wage and even leave clubs before they have even played for them, it is great that there are still players like James around who remain loyal to their home town over a long period of time.

"Nine seasons for one team is an impressive achievement, particularly when you consider the only other club he has played for is the (Worthing/Brighton) Bears, for whom he made his debut at 16 and played four seasons.

"He has played pretty much every position on the court during that time and is a great role model for our supporters, both with his tireless effort on the court and the work he has done in the local community over the years. I'm sure there are many more years left in him."

In his 200 games, Brame has scored 815 points and taken 385 rebounds.
