BOWLS: "Wembley of Bowls" ready for Nationals

PLAYERS and supporters from across England will be heading to Worthing for the Bowls England Men's and Mixed National Championships being held at Beach House Park from Saturday (August 14) to August 28.

Beach House Park is widely-regarded as the "Wembley of Bowls" and has hosted the men's National Championships since 1974. And this year will also see the final stages of the National Mixed Pairs and National Mixed Fours being held on the famous greens.

Tony Allcock MBE, Bowls England chief executive, said: "The National Championships are the highlight of the season, giving players and spectators the opportunity to enjoy the action and the special atmosphere that only Worthing can generate. Thousands of players across England bid to reach the Championships each year by competing in county championships and national competitions during the summer.

"For many, qualifying to play on the famous greens is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

"Others view the Championship fortnight as their annual holiday, whether as player or spectator, and it provides them with the opportunity to meet up with friends old and new from across the country. Whatever the motivation, Beach House Park holds a very special place in the heart of bowlers across England."

Tickets are available on the gate, priced at 4 per day or 8 for three days (not valid for Middleton Cup but can be used on another day and does not need to be used on consecutive days). Once a ticket is purchased, it is possible to leave and re-enter throughout the day.

A special group discount of 25 per cent is available for parties of 10 or more. Call 01903 227070 in advance for more details and to make your booking. Latest results will be published on the Bowls England website throughout the Championships, at www.bowlsengland.com
