Charlotte excited by new challenge

Jockey Charlotte Jenner is on the move after a successful finish to her season, reports Asa Turley-George.

Jenner, from Lancing, has been working in Epsom on the stables as an apprentice for Laura Mongon but will be starting the new year in Lambourn with Stan Moore Racing.

After winning her first race in January, a couple of second place finishes were her highlight until she won her second race in mid-August.

Just as she was in her maiden victory, Jenner started the race at Newbury a 25-1 outsider. Despite a slow start, she defied the odds again for her second career win.

With it looking certain that she has raced for the last time in 2012, Jenner was pleased when reflecting back.

She said “I’m happy with the way everything has gone.

“I’ve had 21 races this season, compared to 10 the season before, so I am getting more experience.

“I have another win under my belt and I rode at Newmarket, which was on Channel Four, so it’s going well.

“In my last race I finished second and was beaten at the nose, which was disappointing. I really think I should have won.

“I don’t think I’ll be put forward to race again this year as I’m moving, so am looking forward to a couple of weeks off and spending time with the family.”

Jenner is excited as she looks ahead to a new chapter in her life next year. She said: “I start on January 1 but am not expecting many rides initially, as a newcomer.

“One aim is to ride in the Hand and Heels Apprentice series and, hopefully, win it.

“My aim for the year is to improve from 2012. I targeted five wins but only managed two, so that is the aim again – five wins and 40 rides.”

Jenner has not forgotten her other long-term target, and said: “I still want to go to Australia at some point. I haven’t been able to this year but I’ll keep saving and, hopefully, in the not too distant future, I’ll have a chance to go out there and ride.”
