Club rises to national challenge

THE Ashington-based Shiva Soviet Taekwondo Club has taken medals in its first attempt at a national competition.

The club, which is led by second Dan black belt Sam Pulfer, attracts students from all over the Horsham district.

Established a year ago as a small extra-curricular activity in Sussex, it has grown into a progressive and dynamic academy.

In its first year, members have competed in three regional and one national competition, and the medal tally currently stands at eight golds, two silvers and one bronze '“ an impressive result for such a young club.

Earlier this month, Shiva Soviet travelled to Bracknell to compete at its first UK national competition '“ an event that attracted approximately 300 participants.
