Arundel Castle fixture list set to be a big hit

The club released their fixtures for 2015 last week and the highlight will once again be the Sussex Festival week.

Sussex will face Surrey in a NatWest T20 contest on June 14, before a LV County Championship game with Durham from June 15-18.

It will be the 26th consecutive summer that Arundel Castle will have played host to the county.

As well as the annual festival, Arundel Castle will also play host to T20 and one-day visually impaired matches between England and India.

Sussex’s women will face Kent and Middlesex in a one-day tri-series tournament, while a Sydney Cricket Ground XI will face a Duke of Norfolk’s XI.

Arundel Castle executive secretary James Rufey is excited with this year’s fixture list and said: “One of the many highlights at the club this year will include the Sussex Cricket Festival.

“We host a T20 match first, with Sussex taking on local rivals Surrey so, hopefully, we can get a bumper ground in at this wonderful ground.

“The festival week is then finished off with Sussex hosting Durham.

“We will hope to see a number of international players in both teams, so there will be some high-class cricket and, once again, we are hopeful of a large crowd.

“Another highlight for us this year is the England visually impaired team taking on the India visually impaired side.

“This will be part of our disability programme and should be a good contest.”

This summer will be Rufey’s second as executive secretary at the club, after taking up the role 16 months ago. With the fixtures now in place, he cannot wait for the cricket to start again this year.

He said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time in the role.

“I knew Arundel as a young boy and played primary school cricket here at the age of seven. I was also a coach for the Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation before moving away from the area.

“I returned to the area last year, which was fantastic, and I immediately came back and got stuck into my role at the club.

“It’s great to be back and to try to help this fantastic establishment move forward in a variety of different ways.”

A busy summer awaits the club this year, with 36 matches to be played across five months and it all begins on May 3 when the Duke Of Norfolk’s XI face Cambridge University.
