Campbell is choice of champions

The 32-year-old, pictured, has the unenviable task of filling the sizeable shoes of Jason Finch, who retired after leading Priory to the Sussex Cricket League title in September.

Although a Priory player for many years, Campbell’s various other commitments have meant that the last time his appearances ran into double figures in a season was back in 2005.

He played in eight matches during the second half of the 2011 campaign – six in the league and two on the Gray-Nicolls T20 Cup finals’ day – scoring 200 runs with a best of 49 and taking four wickets.

In an age when you often hear about the importance of three-dimensional cricketers, the naturally talented Campbell, who was born in Hammersmith, actually has four strings to his bow.

His primary role in the side is as an elegant left-handed batsman. Campbell has made several centuries in Priory whites, the pick being an extraordinary double hundred against Worthing during the 2003 title-winning season.
