The club were crowned Division 1 champions and secured promotion into the Sussex League on Saturday after the whole programme of fixtures fell foul of the weather.

They did not even travel for their scheduled match at Selsey and with each team earning ten points from cancellations – Paul Glover’s side were celebrating their title triumph.

The champagne, however, was on ice on Saturday evening ahead of their participation in the Sunday Twenty20 Cup Finals Day the following day.

The bubbly was not kept away for long, though, as a 76-run victory over Crawley Eagles in the morning in the semi-final, was followed by a four-wicket win over Southwater in the final as Portslade retained the cup and secured the double.

Glover said: “It’s a mixture of all emotions and I do not really think it has sunk it yet for everyone – including myself – just how much it will improve things.

“We cannot wait to get stuck into next year already and the aim is to obviously just stay in the Sussex League next year.

“I think we fully deserve it this year as well. We have worked hard in training and have put the effort in off the pitch.

“It is nice to have clubs and teams, even from out the area, saying how hard we have worked and that we deserve it – it’s been really nice to hear.”
