East Preston aiming to mount another challenge

East Preston were crowned West Sussex Invitation League Division 2 champions last term and are out for more glory in the upcoming campaign.

A major restructure over the winter will see teams from across the county competing in the Sussex League, with EP placed in Division 5 West.

Despite playing in a new-look division, East Preston skipper Weedon is setting his sights high.

He said: “I’m really excited for the new season. We will certainly face some tougher opposition this year but with the league restructure and facing a few teams from last year, we are confident we can carry our form into the start of this year.

“Realistically we have the potential to challenge to win the league, however, this will all depend on having a consistent side throughout the year.

“We have a young, energetic team who will want to win every game.”

East Preston have been dealt a blow with batsman Louis Storey making the move to Billingshurst but they have managed to add Ian Gooding from Worthing.

Other than that, the squad is similar to the title-winning team from last season.

Weedon added: “Unfortunately Louis (Storey) has now moved on but we wish him all the best as he looks to improve and take his game as far as possible.

“Ian (Gooding) is also joining our squad so I’m excited to have his experience from Worthing with me on the field.

“We are also hopeful of signing an overseas player to strengthen our batting line-up in lace of Louis.”

East Preston start life in Division 5 West at Chippingdale on Saturday.
