Findon fall to Village Cup defeat

FINDON Cricket Club’s run in the National Village Cup was ended on Sunday.

They fell to a 67-run defeat at home to Rottingdean in the last 32 of the competiton.

After winning the toss and deciding to field first, Findon struggled.

Henry Ledden (53) and Simon Clarke put on 112 for the second wicket as Rottingdean reached 125 for two.

Clarke eventually fell for 69 but George Ledden’s quickfire knock ensured Rottingdean posted a large total.

George Ledden ended the innings unbeaten on 65, from just 34 balls, while Sam Shepherd finished not out on 19 as the visitors posted 244-5 form their 40 overs.

Findon’s reply started well with Bradley Bridson and John Rogers (16) putting on 67 for the first wicket.

However, once Rogers fell the home side lost three wickets for just 12 runs to leave them on 79 for three.

Bridson went for 52 from 47 balls and when he fell Findon’s hopes of victory seemed to diminish.

Harry Metters made 28 and Alex Nielsen 20 from as many deliveries but the home side were all out for 177 in 32.5 overs.

Michael Smith took five for 29 in 6.5 overs for Rottingdean as they booked a spot in the last 16.
