JOHN GLOVER has been named the new captain of Worthing Cricket Club for the upcoming Sussex League Division 2 season.
He takes over from Luke Vinter, who stepped down at the end of last year.
This year will be Glover’s fourth at the club and he said: “It is really nice to be chosen to represent a club of Worthing’s stature.
“I know it will be a difficult task leading the side but it is one I am really looking forward to.
“It is also really pleasing to know that you have been elected into the role.”
Worthing finished third last season after a strong end to the year and, on aims for this campaign, Glover said: “The aim is to try to get back into Sussex’s top division.
“We had a really good end to last season but it was not quite enough to get promoted.
“The start of the season really let us down and this year everyone at the club will be focused on producing our best cricket from the very first match, as we have some exciting youngsters who will play next season.”
Worthing begin their league season on May 9. Their campaign gets underway the previous week when they travel to Portslade, whose captain is Glover’s brother, Paul, in the T20 Cup.
Alex Harris is Worthing’s new 2nd XI captain, Adam Squires is the 3rd XI skipper and Glenn Harris is the 4th XI captain.
