WORTHING Cricket Club captain John Glover led from the front as his side cruised to a seven-wicket victory at Ifield on Saturday.
Glover was in sensational form with the ball and finished with figures of five for seven in 5.2 overs.
An impressive display in the field also saw Luke Vinter grab three wickets as Ifield were skittled out for just 74.
Worthing wasted no time in their reply and reached the target in only 15.3 overs.
Glover was delighted with the way his side began their league season and said: “It’s the ideal way for the team to start the new league season.
“Last season, we did not get off to the best of starts and then improved.
“I’m hoping this season we can carry on the good form we showed in this game and take that forward with us.
“We bowled really well and to have them all out for under 100 was a great effort.
“It really set the tone for us to go on and get the victory in the end.”
Worthing put Ifield into bat after winning the toss and that proved to be the correct decision.
Opener Greg Barton hit 33 for the hosts but that was as good as it got and he was the only batsman to reach double figures.
The second highest run-scorer in the Ifield innings came in the extras column, with 14 accumulated.
A rampant display with the ball saw Glover claim five wickets, Vinter take three and Jamie Piper secure one.
Worthing set out to knock the runs off as quickly as they could. Openers Matthew Green (15) and Josh Wood (20) got their runs in quick time to edge the visitors closer to their target.
Nick Ballamy then smashed 25 not out from only 13 balls and Benn Challen ended 11 not out as Worthing eased home.
