Goring secure T20 semi-final spot

Goring, who have been in poor form in the Sussex Cricket League Division 3, secured a one wicket win over Burgess Hill in the competiton’s quarter-finals.

It proved to be a low-scoring affair with neither side posting over 100 in their respective innings.

Alex Maynard won the toss and decided to field first.

This looked to be the correct decision as Goring got rid of Tom Trowbridge (eight) and Jack Simpson (seven) in the opening overs.

Karl Boffey hit 21 for Burgess Hill and Joe Maskell made 22 as they looked to gain some momentum.

But Hill struggled to put runs on the board and Ian Simpson’s 14 was as good as it got after Boffey and Maskell fell.

Ross Baumann and Matt Keen both clinched three wickets, while Aaron Wyatt took two.

Goring would have been more than happy at the halfway after they skittled Hill out for just 94 in 19.1 overs.

Skipper Maynard gave Goring an early lift with a quickfire 25.

Sam Thorns then came in and hit 32 and his side would have hoped to get over the winning line in quick time.

However, once Maynard and Thorns fell, Goring collapsed.

The highest scorer after them was Danny Pittham with nine.

But Goring did manage to secure a one-wicket win as Wyatt (three not out) and Oliver Watkins (two not out) saw them book a spot in the tournament’s semi-final stage.
