Key phase in Priory title bid

George Campbell believes the next three games will be crucial to Hastings Priory’s season.

Priory are 11 points clear at the top of the Sussex Premier League having won every game they’ve contested so far this season, but they will be without several players for the upcoming matches.

After their impressive 172-run thrashing of Eastbourne last weekend, Priory are set to be missing Joynal Ahmed, Campbell, Dave Draper, Harry Finch, Tom Harvey and Elliot Hooper for the visit of Chichester Priory Park today (Saturday).

Campbell said: “We’ve set things up beautifully, but the next three weeks will be important. The uni boys are still away and the school boys are going back to school, but we’ve got an excellent squad as we’ve already shown.”

Today’s opponents Chichester are fourth in the table, albeit having played a game more than most of the other sides, and are 35 points adrift of a Priory team which beat them twice last season.

John Morgan is likely to return to the line-up having had a rest last weekend, while Dale Payne is set to come back up from the seconds. Play is due to get under way from 12.30pm at Horntye Park Sports Complex.

Priory have another big game tomorrow when they travel to Tunbridge Wells, who are third-bottom of the Kent Premier League, in round four of the ECB National Club Championship.

If the talented young guns of Priory can pull off another away victory in a stage of the competition named the group final, they will advance to the national stages. See the Hastings Observer for the full article.
