Northants continue to dominate on day three at Arundel
Adam Rossington scored his first hundred of the season as Northamptonshire moved into a strong position to push for their first win of the season on the third day of their Specsavers County Championship match at Arundel.
At tea they had reached 426 for 5, an overall lead of 248 after some aggressive batting by Rossington and David Murphy in an unbroken sixth wicket stand of 147.
Rossington hit four sixes off leg-spinner Luke Wells and 12 fours in an unbeaten 101, despite the discomfort of a sore left hand. Wicketkeeper Murphy gave him good support with an undefeated 40.
On a slow pitch it was hard work for the Sussex bowlers, although they did give themselves an opening when they reduced Northants to 279 for 5 just after lunch. Ajmal Shahzad picked up two wickets including Richard Keogh, who was caught behind for 75. Earlier, Sean Terry had made 54 on his debut before holing out to deep mid-wicket but it was turning into a tough day for the hosts.
