The reigning champions went into the weekend four points clear at the top of the Premier Division in the Sussex League, but were comprehensively beaten by Will Adkin’s in-form side.

An unstoppable Carl Cachopa claimed 8-29 to helped skittle Roffey for just 62 after they had lost the toss and the home side chipped off the total for the loss on no wickets.

The result saw a swing at the summit as East Grinstead took over at the top and Roffey slumped to fourth, behind Bexhill and Preston Nomads and 26 points off the pace.

Roffey skipper Josh Fleming admits that his side - who have a game in hand over the Sussex Development XI - need to keep fighting.

He said: “Saturday was obviously a terrible day for us..

“In terms of the league it puts East Grinstead in the driving seat and is a big setback for us. We will keep fighting to the end though and all we can do is win our games and hope for a slip up from them. I don’t think we will have a problem getting up for this Saturday as we have been excellent at bouncing back from disappointing results over the last couple of years. We are playing Eastbourne who have been in great form recently so we know we will have to be at our best to get anything from the game.”
