Russell: We can beat anybody

Bexhill can compete with the leading lights in Division Two of the Sussex Cricket League.

That’s the view of first team manager Hamish Russell ahead of the visit from second-placed Cuckfield tomorrow (Saturday, 1pm).

He said: “We’ve got a good side and a really good spirit. Everybody believes if we go out there and play our best cricket, we can beat anybody on our day. We’re not fearing anybody at the moment.”

Sixth-placed Bexhill have lost both of their encounters with top four sides so far this season, but they go into tomorrow’s match - which was a Premier Division fixture last season - buoyed by victory at Ifield last weekend.

“Realistically we should be 30 points higher than we are at the moment,” added Russell. “I don’t think there’s any doubt Cuckfield are favourites to win the game, but that’s only on paper.”

Hugh Finzel and Callum Guest are back at their schools for a few weeks. Neil Blatchly could come into contention after an impressive run of form in the seconds.
