Sussex Cricket League round-up: Division Three leaders march on

Bognor Regis have extended their lead at the top of Sussex Cricket League Division Three to 60 points.

The top dogs made it nine wins out of 10 with an eight-wicket victory at home to Goring-By-Sea yesterday (Saturday), while second-placed Burgess Hill lost at home to Steyning.

Bognor bowled Goring out for 185 after choosing to field despite Danny Pittham scoring 90, Graham Bush took 5-56 for Bognor, who comfortably knocked off the runs on the back of an opening stand of 125 between Mikey Harris (77 not out) and Andrew Quincey (57).

Burgess Hill lost by three wickets in a high-scoring clash against Steyning. Hill amassed 250-7 declared batting first thanks in no small part to an opening partnership of 112 between Tom Trowbridge (58) and Jack Simpson (57).

Owain Jones and Ed Lamb took three wickets each for a Steyning side which later recovered from 60-4 to earn a fine victory. Lamb was again to the fore with 61 not out off 50 balls and David Kennett made 66. Jack Simpson took 4-61.

Third-placed Crawley Eagles closed to within two points of Burgess Hill via a seven-wicket win in another high-scoring contest away to Glynde & Beddingham.

Robert Mouland hit 134 as Glynde rattled up 252-6 batting first despite four wickets for Imran Mehboob. It wasn’t nearly enough, however, because Eagles raced to victory in less than 34 overs with Amaar Suddazahai hitting 102 not out and Jibran Khan 64.

Fourth-placed Portslade won a much lower scoring match at home to Rottingdean by 29 runs. Portslade were all out for 142 batting first, Danny Hansen top-scoring with 40, and George Ledden and Mark Grantham claiming four wickets each. Steven Case then bagged 5-19 off 14.1 overs and Paul Glover 3-39 to bowl Rottingdean out for 113.

Bottom side Haywards Heath won by 47 runs away to Chichester Priory Park. Jonny Phelps top-scored with 67 at the top of the order as Heath made 215-7 batting first despite three wickets for Matt Geffen. Chichester were all out for 168 in reply, opener Simon Hasted leading the way with 40 and Josiah Menzies taking four wickets.
