Gordon Muchall reached his first century since May, 2014, to put his side in complete control. His ton came off 215 balls and followed up his unbeaten score of 81 in the first innings.

Muchall did eventually fall for 115, when he was trapped leg before by Luke Wells but the damage was done earlier in the session. Muchall and Paul Coughlin (57 not out) put on 116 for the seventh wicket as the league leaders kicked on for much of the morning.

Coughlin’s half-century came from 100 balls and proved to be the perfect foil for Muchall.

John Hastings crashed a quickfire 22 not out as Durham went to lunch on 303-7, a lead of 403 runs.
