Danny leaves 'indelible mark'

GOODWOOD racecourse's fine turf has been cared for during the last 42 years by Danny Smith, who has just retired as assistant grounds manager.

He began working at the track at the age of 18, when he joined the groundstaff team, and for the remainder of his working life he had helped ensure the famous course was in tip-top condition.

His dedication was rewarded when Lord March presented him with a silver salver to mark his retirement at a cermony attended by his fellow groundstaff, clerk of the course Seamus Buckley and racecourse managing director Rod Fabricius.
