Doctor Who connections are best winning formula

CAPTAIN Jack Harkness and Doctor Who connections are doing well in the small village of Hucking in Kent.

Captain Jack Harkness, alias actor John Barrowman, visited the village to see an unusual namesake.

He visited the stables of South East racehorse trainer John Best where the former point-to-point rider has a string of around 60 racehorses in his yard, including dual Group One winner Kingsgate Native - purchased by John for just 20,000 gns.

In the past he has been responsible for the likes of Hurricane Spirit, Kingsgate Bay, Kingsgate Prince and Classic placed Group Two winner Rising Cross.

He is now preparing his 2009 Hucking syndicate, at a time when an earlier one- Hucking Harkness- is aiming to follow up on his September 14-1 victory at Folkestone in a run on the all-weather at Kempton on October 1, again over seven furlongs.

A three-year-old, Hucking Harkness is a son of Dr Fong. He has the distinction of having been visited at the stables by Captain Jack Harkness, alias actor John Barrowman.

Explained John Best: "This colt stood out as a tricky one to name. Someone mentioned Doctor Who and from there we reached Captain Jack, and Hucking Harkness was born. We got in touch with John Barrowman's connections to see what they thought of us using the name and they loved the idea."

So far this season he has sent out 25 winners and almost 100 placed horses, reaping prize money of more than 456,000.

Hucking Horses III, for 2009, offers a chance to be involved in a syndicate of three horses at an all-inclusive cost. The first horse has already been chosen and the other two will follow shortly.

The first one is Another Magic Man, a colt who will be two in January. He is a stunning, well-developed colt by Chief Seattle and imported from America. The share price is 10,000 for a 16th share of all three horses. The price is inclusive of all costs with no hidden extras.

Each member owns an equal share in the string of three horses selected by John Best, and enjoys the benefits and privileges of ownership with a reduced financial risk.
