Don't miss Goodwood's final meeting of the year on Saturday

GOODWOOD stages a grand finale to another season of top-class flat racing this Sunday (Oct 11).It is the last of 23 meetings at Goodwood this year and features among its highlights the annual National Hunt Jockeys' race at 2pm.

The afternoon will see Richard Hannon retain the Dick Hern Trophy for a second straight year for being the track's top trainer of the season. He goes into the meeting on 15 wins - his nearest rival is Mark Johnston on eight.

Before racing, there's a special lunch with Richard Hannon junior and leading jockey Richard Hughes. You can still book a place for this - it's 79, or 59 for members.

It has been another great year of racing at Goodwood.

Aidan O'Brien and Johnny Murtagh were not as dominant during Glorious as last year but they still managed to win the BGC Sussex Stakes with Rip Van Winkle and in the other Group 1 race, the Blue Square Nassau Stakes, Henry Cecil and Midday, ridden by Tom Queally, emerged as winners.

Yeats didn't manage to return to defend his Goodwood Cup victories of 2007 and 2008 but Schiaparelli put up an excellent performance under Frankie Dettori and looks a worthy champion.

The tote Celebration Mile was won by Delegator and many will follow his progress to see whether or not he can emulate Raven's Pass, who won the race last year and went on to win the Breeders Cup in Santa Anita.

Throughout the season, Hannon has been at the top of the leaderboard of the trainers' championship but it looks as though Hughes will be second to Ryan Moore in the jockey's contest. Moore has had 15 winners to date.
