EASTBOURNE EAGLES CONFIRM NEW PROMOTER FOR 2007

After months of behind the scenes negotiation, Sussex speedway team the Eastbourne Eagles can confirm that current promoter Terry Russell has sold his remaining interests in the team to media entrepreneur Bob Brimson.

Brimson, a devout Eagles fan, will take over as promoter during this close season after negotiating the necessary approvals of the BSPA, speedway's governing body.

Jon Cook will remain as co-promoter and day-to-day manager of the team's affairs.

"I want to get Eastbourne back to being run by the fans, for the fans" says Brimson.

"It is a very special club that is dear to my heart. I want to see the Eagles challenging for honours again, but I also want to build on what I think the club stands for: Great entertainment, a proud history, a team top riders want to ride for - and a chance for youngsters to have a go, and be nurtured into the speedway stars of tomorrow."

"I wish to thank Terry Russell for how he has handled the situation. He has many interests in speedway that need his attention, but he deserves a lot of respect for picking the club up when it was needed. Terry has been a good friend to Eastbourne Eagles, and he will always be welcome here."

Equally Brimson heaps praise on Jon Cook and Bob Dugard. "I think Jon is the beating heart of Eastbourne Eagles and I cannot thank him enough for helping me to make this happen. I must also pay tribute to the Dugard family for their help and advice. There is so much expertise around the club that if we all pull together we can show people what a great speedway club really is."

A relative newcomer to speedway, Brimson came to his first meeting just four seasons ago. Asked along by a relative, he thought it would be an interesting night out, but he freely admits to it becoming nothing short of an obsession. "I was bored with watching play-acting football stars writhing about and cheating. Speedway riders are a different breed. People I respect absolutely."

Brimson's Propeller Media company advises corporations like the huge Universal Music Group, home of U2, Keane, Scissor Sisters, Take That and many others, on the financial aspects of the entertainment industry. He recently won the prestigious national CIPS award for his work despite being up against some of the biggest companies in the world.

"I do understand the entertainment industry pretty well, and I want to put my efforts into securing Eastbourne's place in the top flight for the next generation. Regulars at Arlington will know that on a good night the atmosphere is electric. The stadium itself is a beautiful theatre for sport and we are very fortunate to have a small army of dedicated helpers." He says. "We have a lot of work to do over the close season, but we will be back bigger and better next season."

Eastbourne can end the season on a high having just gained entry into the final of the Craven Shield.
