FOOTBALL: Albion star Andrew Whing's weekly column (January 22)

I'M GLAD that Kaka turned down Manchester City's mega money offer. It's the best thing for English football.

It was mental money and wages like that are absolutely nonsense. I think transfer fees and the money in football is spiralling out of control.

The rich teams will end up getting richer and the poor teams poorer, which could spell the end of the smaller clubs.

Fair play to Kaka though, he has stayed were he is adored and not sold out for the money.

There's no doubt in my mind that City are paying over the odds for players.

Other teams I'm sure will just slap-up the price, when they know City are interested.

The massive money could also be devastating for the English youth set-up, and in turn the future of England's chances of winning a major competition.

City have one of the best youth teams in the country, but imagine what the young players must be thinking.

After last week's talk about happy John Sullivan, he decided to bring this column in and stick it up on the changing room wall.

This backfired somewhat as all the lads started giving him even more stick.

Although he did have a bit of a smile on his face on Monday, as I think his Sunday team picked-up a rare win.

We know we have nothing to fear from the second leg of the Trophy after Tuesday's game.

It was a game where we kept plugging away but didn't seem to get anything. Although we weren't creative enough to win, they did very little either. I don't recall John having a save to make. We are confident we can go up there and turn them over.

Our away form is good and the danger for them is that they may believe they have already done the hard work.
