FOOTBALL: Bloor eyes five Worthing wins

WORTHING joint manager Danny Bloor believes his side need to win all five of their remaining league games to have any chance of winning the Ryman League Division 1 South title.

Rebels sit fourth, three points behind leaders Kingstonian, but five points clear of Sittingbourne who are one place outside the play-off zone.

Kingstonian's late 1-0 win over Walton & Hersham on Monday moved them back to the top, so Rebels will need them, Cray Wanderers and Fleet Town all to slip up at least once in their remaining fixtures.

Bloor said: "We'll be going out to win all five games. There are 82 points to get and 82 points is our target."

Worthing travel to Ashford Town on Saturday and will be well aware of the tough task they face after the game at the A2B Stadium ended in a 0-0 draw in November.

But Rebels have shown great character and work-rate recently to come from behind and net crucial late winners and equalisers.

Bloor said: "Both Ashford's defence and goalkeeper were superb at our place and made it very difficult for us. But, of course, we'll be going there and will give it our best shot.

"You look at any side in any level of football that is successful and they all get late goals. It is so vital to play the whole duration of the game, right up to the last minute.

"We've shown that in our last four games, we have gone behind and not lost, which is a real testament to us."

After captain Ben Andrews suffered a set-back in his comeback from injury last week, initial reports ruled him out for possibly another three weeks, but Bloor is optimistic that, after a good session with the physio on Monday, Andrews could be fit for Saturday.

Andy Alexander is also expected to return to the squad.

Rebels only stayed in the race for the title on Saturday when Jamie Brotherton headed the winner two minutes into injury-time against Walton Casuals '“ after Scott Kirkwood had been sent-off early in the second period. It was his second red card of the season, and he will now be suspended for four games from April 11.

Brotherton's winner on Saturday was his 13th goal of the season, and he said: "It's a great feeling, although I'd rather we hadn't left it so late.

"Everyone here wants to get promoted, and I don't think a point would have done. If we'd drawn, it would have felt like a loss. We needed to win and we did."
