FOOTBALL: Rebels make it three wins in a row

WORTHING Football Club won for the third successive Ryman League Division 1 South game on Tuesday (March 2) with a 3-0 victory over Horsham YMCA.

After a scoreless first half, which Rebels dominated, Worthing went ahead on 54 minutes.

Skipper Paul Kennett's powerful drive was deflected on to the bar and Evan Archibald's follow-up header was handled on the line by Steve Metcalf.

Metcalf was red-carded and Archibald scored from the resulting spot-kick to score for the the fourth successive game.

Despite being a man down, YMCA then played some good football and were awarded a penalty of their own on 70 minutes. Tom Manton beat several challenges before passing to Matt Geard, who was brought down by Worthing keeper Alan Mansfield, who was booked for the foul.

Mansfield made amends, though, when he saved Terry Dodd's penalty with his legs and also stopped Mike Huckett's headed rebound.

YMCA still threatened an equaliser and Mansfield dived to his right to keep out Neil Watts' volley on 87 minutes before Rebels sealed their win in injury-time when substitute Chamal Fenelon struck twice for his first goals for the club.
