FOOTBALL: Treleaven earns Worthing a point at Chipstead

WORTHING Football Club extended their unbeaten Ryman League Division 1 South run to 17 games on Saturday (January 24) but had to settle for a 1-1 draw at lowly Chipstead.

Rebels started slowly and fell behind after just 10 minutes when Zac Graham netted from 20 yards.

Ross Treleaven had an effort saved by former Rebels keeper James Wastell on 23 minutes, before Paul Kennett fired wide on 40 minutes and then had an effort disallowed for offside on the stroke of half-time.

Chipstead could have doubled their lead early in the second period but Daryl Watson shot wide from 12 yards.

Worthing's Karl Akehurst was just off target on 62 minutes, before Andy Alexander's header from Chris O'Flaherty's corner was cleared off the line four minutes later.

Rebels looked more dangerous after a 67th-minute substitution. Stuart Axten replaced Scott Kirkwood, which meant Worthing went to 4-4-2 from 4-5-1 and skipper Ben Andrews moved from right-back to up front.

And five minutes later, Rebels equalised. Andrews' determined run found Treleaven, whose shot from 10 yards just crossed the line for his seventh goal of the season.

Chipstead substitute Reice Haslan fired two late chances over the bar, while at the other end, Akehurst had a shot blocked in the third-minute of injury-time.
