Worthing FC have still not quite clinched a play-off spot – though they need only one point from their last two league games to do so.

They looked on course to make sure of one when they went 2-0 up at Taunton Town on Saturday – only to end up losing 3-2.

Ollie Pearce with an 11th-minute penalty and Ibby Akanbi on 42 minutes put Adam Hinshelwood’s men in command only for Ross Stearn’s penalty doublr either side of the interval to level it up. Stearn completed his hat-trick at the death to clinch the points for the Somerset hosts.

It leaves Worthing needing a point to make sure of a top-seven finish and their next chance comes on Tuesday evening at Cheshunt, 24 hours before they play their Sussex Senior Cup semi-final against Hastings at Lancing.

Worthing can still secure a home opener in the play-offs too – but they need to finish fourth or fifth to do that.
