WORTHING Football Club’s majority shareholder George Dowell is pleased with the progress that is being made on the 3G surface at Woodside Road.
Work began last month to install a 3G pitch at the ground and it is expected to be completed by early July.
Dowell cannot wait for the 3G pitch to be in place and said: “Work is going well on the new surface. We have not set an exact date for completion but, with how it is currently going, we are looking at late June or early July.
“It was something that I wanted to do as soon as I came into the club and, now the work is well underway, it’s great.”
Rebels are still in discussions as to who will be the first side to face them in the 3G era.
Dowell is hoping it will be a big-name opponent for the opening game on the 3G surface and said: “The first match is going to be a great occasion for everyone involved with the club.
“We are chatting to a couple of teams at the moment to see if they want to be the first.
“The aim is to make this a real football hub and we currently have a number of bookings to play on the new surface.
“It’s great that we can now offer this facility to the community.
“The hope is that it will be used to play football on all of the time.”
