The new tie-up kicked off on Friday when Sussex promoted and sold tickets for Albion’s pre-season friendly with Villareal, which took place on Saturday and the visitors won 3-1.

Albion’s head of commercial development Simon Williams said: “Both Sussex CCC and ourselves face very similar operational challenges and, by working together, sharing expertise and experiences it will be of mutual benefit to both clubs.

“We also have a number of fans who follow both teams – so it makes sense to have a collaborative approach which can help them, too.

“Our seasons might overlap a little bit, but ultimately it is rare that we are ever in direct competition with one another, and even this weekend, due to the Australia match, we opted for an evening kick-off to allow fans to attend both matches if they want to.”

Trevor Mould, Sussex CCC head of commercial, added, “Both Simon Williams, Albion’s head of commercial development, and I enjoy the same vision in bringing the two clubs closer together for the benefit of both sets of supporters and this is the first stage of many.”Over the coming months, the two clubs envisage further collaboration could include merchandise, memberships and tickets being available via both clubs.
