MIDFIELDER Brannon O’Neill is back in contention to return to Worthing Football Club’s squad after completing a eight-match ban.

O’Neill was sent off after an incident at Three Bridges in September and he receieved the lengthy suspension following an investigation.

Rebels joint boss Jon Meeney is looking forward to O’Neill’s return but says the midfielder needs to control his discipline.

He said: “You’ll always miss someone of Brannon’s calibre. He’s a leader on the pitch, who can handle himself physically and he’s good on the ball.

“He brings that energy in there, that bit of a heartbeat, so it will be terrific to have him back.

“But he knows – and we’ve spoken to him – that he’s got to control himself with his discipline because otherwise we’re back to square one and he’s missing games of football. You can fine players, you can do this and do that but when you’re missing games of football, if that doesn’t hit home, then you’ve got to ask yourself questions.

“He has learned from it. After the Three Bridges incident, he’s shown that he can play with good maturity and control. I don’t want to take away his commitment and his tenacity but it’s how to use that in a controlled and calculated manner.”
