Adam Webster: 'John Lundstram should have seen red for 'horrible tackle' on Lewis Dunk'

Lewis Dunk escaped without a major injury after a dangerous challenge from Sheffield United's John Lundstram

Two major calls didn't go Albion's way during the 1-1 draw at Bramall Lane when Ben Osborn’s handball inside the box in the second half and John Lundstram’s challenge on Lewis Dunk both went unpunished.

“On another day we might have had the penalty and also the red card for a challenge on Dunky, which seemed to be a horrible tackle. That could have gone for us.

“But the main thing is if you can’t win, don’t lose. That’s what we’ve done in the last couple of games, and if we can come away with a win next week then that will be massive for us.”

Neal Maupay's header after 30 minutes claimed a point for Albion after Enda Stevens opened the scoring with a stinging left footed finish. Brighton then defended well and soaked up plenty of pressure as Sheffield United pushed for the winner.

“It was a difficult game and not many teams leave here with something," said Webster. "Because they are relentless in the way they play and always put you under pressure.

“We defended very well and we couldn’t do much about their goal. We would have liked to have been better on the ball, but the most important thing is to be solid in defence.

“If you give a team like Sheffield United a leg up then it’s always going to be a challenge as they are very good at defending a lead.

“We reacted well to going behind, and I don’t think we gave them too many more chances.”

Webster played as part of a back three alongside Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk. Ezequiel Schelotto and Dan Burn were on either flank and also contributed greatly to the defensive effort. Webster was particularly pleased to see Burn getting back to his best having recovered from a broken collarbone.

He added, "Having Dan Burn back is massive because he’s a big character and has played a big part in what we’ve done this season. We’ve got a near fully fit squad, with a lot of competition and if you’re not up for it then you won’t play. That drives everyone on.

“Playing in a three really suits us. Today was a bit different because of the way Sheffield United press. We didn’t have as much of the ball as we would’ve liked and conceded a bit too much possession at times. Normally we look to dominate the ball."

Brighton are 15th in the league standings, four points above the relegation zone. Graham Potter's men are next in action this Saturday against Crystal Palace at the Amex (12.30pm).
