Arsenal have agreed a £12m deal with Chelsea to sign Jorginho, all but ending their pursuit of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The Italian midfielder will sign an 18-month contract with the Premier League leaders, with the option to extend by a further year.

Jorginho has gone on to play 213 games for the Blues, winning the Europa League in 2019 and the Champions League in 2021, as well as the Uefa Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup.

He has won 56 caps for Italy, being a part of the Italy squad that won the 2020 Euros, playing every game in the tournament.

The deal between the two London clubs all but ends the Gunners pursuit of Moises Caicedo in this transfer window.

The North London side saw two bids – £60m and £70m – rejected by the Seagulls, who held firm on their stance that the player was not for sale in January.

Chelsea also saw a verbal £55m bid rejected for the Ecuador international – who has two-and-a-half years left on his Brighton contract.

Brighton have told the 21-year-old to take time off until after the January transfer window deadline. He is expected to be available for selection for Albion’s next league game at home to Bournemouth on Saturday, February 4.

Arsenal had already signed one Brighton player in this window, after Leandro Trossard joined the club in a £22m deal plus add-ons, agreeing a four-and-a-half-year contact.

Mikel Arteta has also signed defender Jakub Kiwior this month, buying the Polish international from Spezia, for £17.5m.
