Martinez appears to be heading for the exit door at the Emirates and has pulled out of the squad to face Fulham today.

The 28-year-old Argentine was hugely impressive for the Gunners last season, while regular stopper Bernd Leno was injured.

Martinez wants regular first team football in the Premier League and Arsenal would be willing to sell if they can achieve £20m for the player who made 23 appearances for them last campaign.

Villa are said to have offered £15m plus add-ons.

Brighton seem keen to add competition for their regular No 1 Maty Ryan who has been a reliable and consistent presence for the Seagulls since he arrived from Valencia in 2017.

Earlier this month Albion sold their No 2 David Button to newly-promoted West Brom for £1m. Christian Walton returned to the Amex following a loan spell at Blackburn but he injured himself in pre-season after landing awkwardly on his ankle.

Former Sunderland keeper Jason Steele and 6ft 7in Spaniard Robert Sanchez are the other goalkeepers on the books at Albion.
