Brighton dominated the match pretty much from start to finish but classy finishes from Palace in each half sealed all three points and relieved some pressure on boss Roy Hodgson.
Mateta put the visitors ahead on 28 minutes with a very clever back heel after great work down the right from Jordan Ayew.
Brighton continued to push forward and finally got the equaliser they deserved in the second half when Joel Veltman smashed home with his left foot.
Adam Lallana, Leo Trossard and Ali Jahanbakhsh all missed chances to win the game but it was Benteke who struck with an excellent volley on 95 minutes.

5. Joel Veltman 8
Always looking to go forward, both as a left-wing back in the first-half and left-back in the second after Potter's formation shift. Scored his first goal for the club to bring the hosts level. Good performance from the Dutchman.
6. Yves Bissouma 6
Assured in the little defensive work he had to. Played higher up the pitch for a large portion of the game. A few nice touches and not afraid to shoot from distance.
7. Pascal Gross 6
A quiet performance from the German but he was involved in build-up to the equaliser. A couple of dangerous set-pieces but couldn't make a decisive impact. Replaced by Alireza Jahanbakhsh for final ten minutes.
8. Alexis Mac Allister 6
Not up to the high standards he has set recently. Tried hard but let down by a few heavy touches. Replaced by Adam Lallana for final 25 minutes as Albion pushed for a winner.
