Brighton and Hove Albion have had their fair share of fearsome competitors over the years. Here we take a look at some of them and see how they earned their reputations. Scroll through the pictures below.
9. Doug Rougvie 1987-88
A hard defender who joined Albion from Chelsea. Previously played under Alex Ferguson during Aberdeen's most successful period. Sent-off in a match against Wimbledon for punching Dave Beasant and headbutting Carlton Fairweather.
10. Paul Clark 1977-82
As hard as nails, no quarter given , uncompromising, tough tackling...All the hard-man cliches applicable for this defender.
11. Shane Duffy 2016-present
Fully committed defender. Duffy was once seriously injured after colliding with a goalkeeper during a training match. He underwent emergency surgery after lacerating his liver, and losing three litres of blood. Medical staff described it as a 'freak accident'.
12. Steve Foster 1979/84
Fozzie was the hardman side-kick to Mark Lawrenson's cultured contribution. Always put his head in where it hurts, resulting in the trademark headband. He wore it to protect scar tissue, which he picked up after tangling with Andy Gray.
