The Premier League and the WSL suspended the current season until April 30 at the earliest due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Brighton players were due to meet at the Lancing training facility today (Friday) but the club changed their plans and have suspended all group training.

"We have also postponed training at both Lancing and Sussex University for the next two weeks to limit the risk to our senior men’s and women’s squads respectively," said Albion chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber.

"Instead they have been issued with individual training programmes with the view to returning to training in mid-April and resuming playing action in early May for both teams."

These programmes will be carried out at the players' homes, and the club will liaise with players in both squads to ensure they have the right equipment.

Barber added: "They have been prepared by our technical director Dan Ashworth, head coach Graham Potter, women’s first-team manager Hope Powell, our coaches and sports science specialists. It’s been a challenge for everyone, but one which they have risen to with great professionalism."

Veteran striker Glenn Murray said it was the right call to stay away from the training base. “For me, when you have got 30 guys going to training, say 40 guys including staff, and each one has a partner, kids, they are seeing their parents and what not, surely one of them is going to bring it into the training ground. It is pretty inevitable, isn’t it?

“I think we should be self-isolating and trying to get over this stage and go back as healthy and quickly as possible.”
