First clean sheet of the year at Wolves delights Brighton boss Graham Potter

Potter said, "We hope it will be a valuable point, of course. It was a really good performance, I thought. Defensively delighted to keep a clean sheet at the home of a really good team.

"Over the course of the game we deserved the point. We would like to improve our offensive play but it's a clean sheet away from home against a team pushing for the top six.

"Wolves have had a fantastic season. You can see the quality they have, in transition they are as good as anybody. We restricted them too not too much, probably one chance at the end.

"It's really positive for us. We haven't had a clean sheet for a while. We haven't been bad defensively we've just been punished for not too much. The clean sheet was really important.

"It's credit to the players, they have worked really hard and showed the quality."

Albion could have scored after some good work on both occasions from Leandro Trossard cutting in on the wing and finding a cross into both Neal Maupay and then Solly March, but neither were able to convert.

Potter agreed there were few clear-cut chances in the game due to the tactical battle between his Albion side and Nuno Espirito Santo's Wolves.

He said, "Wolves have based their success on a back five and defend very, very well. It's not so easy to create chances against them. Better teams than us have struggled to do that.

"We had a moment with the ball across the six-yard box with Neal just missing out on that.

"A few other attacking entries but no real masses of chances. I think they had one at the end. So it was a bit of a tactical battle, which you would expect.

"I just think our performance was such that we could see the moments out and then we made decent decisions ourselves so that the home team couldn't get the momentum maybe they would want."

Potter named an unchanged side from last week's loss against Crystal Palace at The Amex, where he said his side's overall performance was good.

He said, "With a bit of luck we would have scored the first goal last week and then the game changes a bit, but we didn't. But the overall performance was good.

"I felt that the same team could influence this game. I think the subs had a really good impact on the game, so we've got options as well, and it's nice the guys are ready to help their team and play. So overall, really satisfying afternoon."

Alexis Mac Allister was one of the subs who came on and made his debut and showed glimpses of his ability.

Potter said, "I thought as the game opened up you can see his quality in the pass, forward pass and his set-play deliveries were of a high level.

"It's finding the right time for him to play, the right time for him to come on the pitch because of his adaptation process.

"But he's ready, he's ready to help, as are a lot of other players so we just try to select the right ones and then you want a performance and I thought we got that today against a good team."
