Forgotten Brighton winger Jose Izquierdo returns after 18 months with winner at West Ham

One major positive on an otherwise pretty grim weekend for Brighton was the return to action of their Colombian winger Jose Izquierdo

Izquierdo has not played for 18 months due to a knee injury but the 28-year-old continued his long path to full fitness as he made a goal-scoring return by netting the winner for Albion under-23s in their 3-2 win at West Ham.

The Colombian winger, who joined Brighton in 2017 for £13.5m, came off the bench in the 60th minute for Simon Rusk's side with the score at 2-2.

He class made all the difference as he scored the winner three minutes from time with a well-taken lob.

Reda Khadra, the new signing from Borussia Dortmund during the week, also played well and scored early into his Seagulls debut.

Albion's other goal arrived three minutes before the break when a Max Sanders corner took a deflection before trickling past West Ham keeper Joseph Anang.

The win extends Albion’s unbeaten start to the new Premier League 2 Division 1 season to four games, following last week’s win against Chelsea and draws with Tottenham and Arsenal.

Team: Sanchez (GK), Packham (Turns 45), Dendoncker, Tsoungi, Furlong, Yapi, Weir, Sanders, Jenks (Wilson 71), Eneme-Ella, Khadra (Izquierdo 59). Subs not used: Rushworth, Spong.
