Graham Potter outlines strategic plan for fit-again Davy Propper in 2021

Propper, 29, has struggled with injuries and illness this season and his second half showing during the pulsating 3-3 draw against Wolves yesterday was just his second Premier League appearance of the season.

The Dutch international replaced Yves Bissouma at halftime against Wolves after the Mali international received his fifth yellow card of the season.

Bissouma will now be suspended for their next PL match against Man City and having a fully fit Propper is now more important than ever for Potter's team.

Propper's only other top flight outing this season was last Friday's 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal where he played 68 minutes before being replaced by Solly March.

"Davy has had a frustrating season with injuries," said Potter. "It is nice for him that he has contributed on the pitch.

"He has been an important player for us and we have missed him. But we have had to take our time with him and make sure he is right so it nice for him to be on the pitch now.

"If we can keep him right then there is a chance [he will have a big role for the rest of the season] He has got quality and the boys enjoyed him being out there.

"I think he played well against Arsenal in the first game and it's good that he' back, very good."

Bissouma's fifth yellow in 19 matches and a hamstring injury to Aaron Connolly were the downsides to Brighton's spirited comeback against Nuno Espírito Santo's Wolves team.

Connolly poked Brighton ahead with his first goal at the Amex Stadium in 15 months. Wolves defender Saiss soon nodded past Seagulls goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, before Dan Burn scored at the wrong end and then brought down Adama Traore to allow Neves to score from 12 yards.

Neal Maupay won and converted a penalty immediately after the restart and captain Lewis Dunk headed home from a corner 20 minutes from time.

The relegation-threatened Seagulls moved three points clear of the bottom three, albeit having played two games more than 18th-placed Fulham but Connolly's injury and Bissouma's suspension is a blow.

Potter said: "Yes [it is a hamstring injury].

"It is too early to say the extent of it but it would probably be a couple of weeks, I would have thought."

Potter also confirmed that Bissouma's halftime withdrawal was due to the booking rather than injury.

"He was just on a yellow, so we didn't want him to make another one," the head coach said. "Being down to 10 would have made it very difficult for us.

"It was his third match in a week as well so we decided to change."
