Jones made 159 appearances for Brighton between 2000 and 2005 and was also a member of the coaching staff to Oscar Garcia, Sami Hyypia and Chris Hughton.

He left the Amex in 2016 to manage League Two club Luton and steered them to promotion to League One in 2017–18.

Luton looked set for a second consecutive promotion when Jones left in January 2019 for Championship club Stoke City.

His time at Stoke proved difficult and he was sacked in November 2019.

This morning - 16 months after leaving the club to take over at Stoke City - it was confirmed Jones has been re-appointed by Luton.

Jones, 47, will take charge of Luton's final nine games - if play resumes in the second tier. The Hatters are second from bottom in the Championship with 35 points from 37 matches.

"My job is to make sure the club can escape the severe economic impact of the virus and whatever decisions we make now, it is the club that must be put first," said Luton Town CEO Gary Sweet.

"We must do everything we possibly can to stay in the Championship this season. We have just nine games left to climb out of the relegation zone and the squad has to be more than ready.

"We need a manager who can hit the ground sprinting - someone who knows us, our players and our environment and someone who knows the league.

"There's only one man who has those characteristics and that's Nathan Jones."
