Joel Veltman was a surprise omission from the starting XI with Dan Burn preferred in the defence who will likely start at left back.

That could see Solly March play on the right side of midfield with Ben White who will likely shuffle across to right back.

There was no place in the match day squad for striker Aaron Connolly while Leandro Trossard starts ahead of Pascal Gross in midfield.

Robert Sanchez is once again selected in goal with Maty Ryan not even on the bench as Jason Steele remains the back-up stopper.

Brighton's staring XI: Sanchez, White, Dunk, Webster, Burn; March, Bissouma, Lallana,Trossard; Maupay, Welbeck. Subs:Mac Allister, Gross, Jahanbakhsh, Alzate, Steele, Propper, Zeqiri, Bernardo, Veltman.

Here's how Brighton fans reacted on social media:

@wearebrighton: Where will Dan Burn be playing today? Centre back? Left back? Left wing back? Only Graham Potter's Brighton Selection Wheel can decide.

@DanNuggs: Gotta say I would definitely have Gross in ahead of Trossard at the moment. Often our most creative player, did well in this fixture last season, and offers a calm head. Has been more effective when involved this season than most #Bhafc

@barhamstash: Hmm BDB. Really got exposed last time out. I would have gone Veltman as despite being a foot shorter jumps higher than BDB. He’s got the weakest jump for someone six foot seven! #bhafc

@HampshireBHAFC; I have no idea what formation we're playing or who is playing where, even with that line up in front of my eyes. March RWB? White RB in a 4? Who knows. Tune in at 2.15pm to find out #BHAFC

@AntWatts: Match day 15. 15th different line-up. The National Pottery. #BHAFC

@Brightonfan: Yet again we are relying on Lallana creativity in midfield, why don’t we just play Alzate in with him?! What has Alzate done to keep getting overlooked, last week was a exception when will he get a full run in our side?! #bhafc

@AntWatts: No idea the formation from that line-up. Just the four centre backs. #BHAFC

@KieranJamesH: Can't deal with the negativity from a minority of #bhafc fans. Problem is they seem to be talking the most at the moment. 4 cbs at the back looks concerning but not much choice without Lamptey and no decent left or right back. (Veltman went off injured last game...) #potterin
