Tariq Lamptey and Adam Webster were both left out of the starting XI as Graham Potter prepares for a busy Christmas period.

Lamptey, who made his Albion debut at the King Power last June was left out of the squad as a 'precaution' while Webster had to settle for a place on the bench.

"It's a shame we haven't got Tariq Lamptey, but that is purely precautionary," said Potter. "We have a lot of games coming up so we have to be careful with the players."

Ali Jahanbakhsh makes a rare start in midfield and Neal Maupay is back in the team ahead of Aaron Connolly and will partner Danny Welbeck up top.

Brighton XI: Ryan; Veltman, White, Dunk, Burn; AJ, Bissouma, Gross, March; Welbeck, Maupay. Subs: Steele, Webster, Connolly, Mac Allister, Trossard, Alzate, Propper.

Here's how the fans reacted on social media

@TweetingSeagull: That said, I remain very surprised that Pröpper still hasn’t got into the team since returning from injury. He’s well overdue a start. #bhafc #LeiBha

@MJSowerby: Good to see AJ in the 11. If a back three then probably wise to have Burn on the left as Webster has been struggling there. #bhafc

@aliwatkins202 Let’s get behind the team everyone, big games coming up where we can pick up points. Time to be smart as well with selections -games coming thick & fast. #bhafc

@MikeKing14_ Don’t mind me, just sitting here absolutely buzzing about seeing Jahanbakhsh start

@TheBrightonBard: Would love Neal to get a couple this evening. #BHAFC

@BHA_Bowman This could be an art work. Interesting without Lamptey. Anybody have a clue what formation we are playing- so many possible formations, variation is good. #BHAFC

@geoffstaples No Webster! It was time I think too many mistakes of late #BHAFC

@jstockbridge1: At last, big Dan Burn #bhafc

@Tweeked13 Reason Lamptey not playing? My money is on Lamptey being rested for the Fulham game which is a must win, I imagine that’s also why Webster and Connolly are missing from starting 11 #BHAFC

@Mareschappie The players picked tonight may not have been who we expected, but are a) good players, and b) good players who will (should) want to prove they are good enough to start every game, so who knows, we might just prove people wrong and get a result. Come on Brighton ⚪ #bhafc
