'No comfort for Brighton fans!' BBC pundit slams Albion's style of play after Sheffield United

BBC football pundit Dion Dublin believes Brighton's attractive football is no comfort whatsoever to Brighton fans as they continue to waste chances and hover dangerous close to the relegation zone

Graham Potter's team once again created more than enough chances to comfortably win Sunday's hard fought 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

In the end they were thankful for second half substitute Danny Welbeck who came off the bench and fired home from close range to level the scores in the 87th minutes.

Brighton carved out further chances that were missed by Aaron Connolly, Neal Maupay, Leo Trossard and then Alireza Jahanbakhsh's late header that hit the bar.

Albion have netted 16 times from 14 matches this campaign but have just three in their last five and two of those were penalties from Pascal Gross.

Welbeck, who arrived on a free transfer this summer after an injury-hit time at Watford, is Brighton's most experienced striker and the former England man has two goals this season.

Maupay remains Albion's leading scorer with four but the Frenchman has not celebrated a goal since their 4-2 loss at Everton last October.

Connolly's only strike this season arrived at Newcastle in September and Trossard also has just one goal, scored on the opening game of the season against Chelsea.

Andi Zeqiri, who made his debut as a second half substitute against Sheffield United, is also an interesting option for Brighton.

The highly-rated 21-year-old joined last summer from Swiss outfit Lausanne for £3.5m but is untested at Premier League level.

It's becoming increasingly frustrating for Albion fans who have witnessed some decent football but are missing that crucial end product.

Potter's men are 16th in the league and just two points above the drop zone as they head into the busy festive period.

"They have Neal Maupay, Danny Welbeck and Trossard, he's a good player," said Richards on MOTD2. "But they are just not clinical enough.

"If they are not putting their chances away it is going to send them down.

"There is January around the corner. All the stats say they are getting in the right areas but they are just not putting them away, so what does that tell you? They need another striker."

His co-pundit Dion Dublin was also critical of Brighton after their 1-1 draw against Sheffield United and feels fans can take take little comfort from clever approach play but little in terms of goals.

"You can't take any comfort," said Dublin. "You get your season ticket, you watch great football but there is nothing at the end of it. It's all about end product and there isn't one."

Potter however feels Brighton's fortunes in front of goal will improve and believes signing a new striker on big money and a big transfer fee isn't always the answer.

"You only have to look at the league. There are a lot of £20m strikers who haven't succeeded to start with," said Potter.

"It feels like the easy solution and believe you me if that type of player is there then we will of course do our best to do it but I think it is always a collective problem and a collective challenge and that is what we have to work with.

"I am happy with what we have. We have got some young players that are trying to establish themselves in the toughest league in the world," he said.

"You are going to get days when it is good and days when it is not so good and things like confidence and that know-how in this league, they have to learn and develop it. That is the project we have here.

"It is part of football. Sometimes you miss chances, we don't create as much. I think it is an area we want to improve," said Potter.

"I think the goals will come. I believe in the players as I have said before."
