Pascal Gross makes honest admission after reoccurring nightmare against Crystal Palace

Like many Brighton fans, Pascal Gross was left baffled with Albion's defeat to old rivals Crystal Palace at the Amex Stadium last night.

Roy Hodgson's determined and defensive team somehow snatched all three points when Christian Benteke slammed home a volley in the 95th minute.

Brighton dominated the match but were wasteful when the big chances came their way. Graham Potter's team were pushing hard for the winner after Joel Veltman's second half strike cancelled out Jean-Philippe Mateta back-heeled opener from a rare attack.

“We're very disappointed to lose it like that,” Gross said. “We had the better chances and we deserved to draw, if not win.

“We were sloppy in the first half, but in the second half we played better football. Football is about goals though and we weren't able to find the decisive one.”

“We've had a lot of chances, but we need to be better at finishing off moves. We are getting into good areas and making them positive situations, but it doesn't mean anything without that end product.

“We saw against Palace that we couldn't quite find the all important second goal and that was the story of our season."

Palace move up to 13th in the Premier League table with 16th placed Brighton just four points above improving Fulham in 18th.

“We have to realise where we are in the table – we're in a dangerous area, we need to work hard to earn our wins.

"It's not easy, we need to stick together and look forward now to Saturday.”

Brighton went into the match on a six game unbeaten run, with five clean sheets in the process. When Veltman fired home the equaliser - his first goal for Brighton following his £900,000 summer arrival from Ajax - it felt like Albion would go on to win the game.

"It is unbelievable. They are getting away with it," said Veltman. "It feels like a robbery of our points.

"The chances we didn't finish and they had half a chance and Benteke scored. We have to score more.

"Because of this result we are getting in the danger zone.

"We have to react and West Brom away is a very important game."
