Brighton transfer news: Player due to fly in to confirm Albion move, Seagulls join race for top flight talent

Brighton look as if they could be on the cusp of wrapping up a major transfer coup in the coming days.

It wasn’t that long ago that Premier League leaders Manchester United were leading the hunt for Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo, but according to the director of his current club Independiente Del Valle, everything is set for the teenager to seal a switch to the Amex in the very near future.

Speaking to Area 88, Santiago Morales said: “I’m going to give you a scoop: yesterday we received Moises Caicedo’ visa so that he can travel to England. He has tickets to travel tomorrow, he will undergo medical checks to join Brighton.

“We have transferred 80% of the rights of Moisés Caicedo, we reserve 20% of a future sale. The values are those that have been discussed.”

“I understand that Brighton have no places for foreigners for the remainder of the tournament. We don’t know if they will loan him to Belgium, but if it happens it’ll be something very timely because Brighton made a great investment for him.”

Caicedo’s reputation certainly precedes him too.

According to South American football expert Tim Vickery, the youngster is “a box-to-box midfielder, a terrific athlete who is cool in possession. He’s not a wizard, not a glamorous player but he’s got so much to offer.”

Caicedo might not be the only midfielder on his way to the south coast in the near future either.

As per the Daily Mail, Albion are one of a host of clubs who are interested in signing Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthy.

The 30-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and with no extension to his current deal agreed, could be on his way out of Selhurst Park on a free transfer.

Alongside the Seagulls, Celtic, Burnley, and West Brom are said to be monitoring his situation.

The Republic of Ireland still looks to have plenty to offer at the highest level too.

So far this season he has averaged 1.09 more interceptions per game park than Yves Bissouma this term, as well as winning 5.7% more of his contested duels than the Malian, as per Wyscout.
