Lamptey, 20, was one of Albion's best players on the night and capped a fine performance with a second half goal, which was his first in the Premier League and his first for Brighton.

Unfortunately for Lamptey and Albion fans his strike wasn't enough for Brighton to get something from the match as a winner from second half substitute Gareth Bale sealed all three points from the home team.

"We definitely deserved something, the team were excellent," said Lamptey. "We gave our all until the final whistle and we deserved to get something out of the game.

"But this is the Premier League and hopefully we can take the positives from this game and move on to the next."

Lamptey's goal cancelled out Harry Kane's first half penalty but the former Chelsea man had an anxious wait to see if his goal would stand after Solly March appeared to foul Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the build-up.

Referee Graham Scott consulted the pitchside monitor before allowing the goal to stand.

"You never know with VAR but I have not seen it back properly. I just saw little glimpses so I'll have to see it again," said Lamptey.

"You can never feel like you have enough. It was nice to get the goal but the main thing was the team to get something from today and we didn't which is disappointing but on another day we would have got something.

"They are a quality team and they took their chances but we had chances ourselves."

Despite not getting anything from the match Lamptey admitted his first Premier League strike was a proud moment and thanked his teammate Pascal Gross for picking him out with an incisive throughball.

"It was a fantastic and proud moment but unlucky that the team couldn't get something from the game.

"When the opposite wing back has the ball it's good to get yourself on the back post and it was a great pass from Pascal Gross to find me.

"It was great to see that and I just slotted it away.

"We have to take the positives. We have had a tough run but hopefully we can start picking up some points."

Brighton are next in Premier League action this Friday at the Amex Stadium.
