Lancers, who are currently without a manager following Ash Bailey’s decision to resign last week, came from behind twice to snatch a 2-2 draw in the Southern Combination League Premier Division clash.

After falling to a 5-1 defeat in Bailey’s final game four days earlier, Gander - who assisted caretaker manager John Sharman at Newhaven - believes Lancers’ spirit was great after twice going behind.

He said: “It was a really good all-round team performance. After falling behind at Worthing United in our previous game, we fell away but this was totally different to that one.

“The players dug in, gave it their all and deservedly came away with a point for the efforts.

“Liam Hendy was exceptional in midfield for us. He broke up so many attacks and produced a brilliant display.”

Lancing were behind inside ten minutes as Lee Robinson netted his 11th league goal this season.

Back came Lancers and Luke Donaldson’s strike got them back on terms 20 minutes later.

Despite Lancing’s resilience, Dockers were ahead for a second time ten minutes after the break when Scott Taylor netted.

Tom Caplin’s effort ten minutes from time ensured Lancing clawed themselves level once again to take a point.
