Cold snap plays havoc with local sport

HEAVY frost overnight and continued freezing conditions this morning (Saturday) has hit the local sporting programme.

Football of all levels across the county has been hit, with Worthing’s home match against Chipstead in Ryman League Division 1 South called off owing to a frozen pitch.

In the County League all games in Division 1, 2 and 3 are off. In the top flight all our local sides’ games, Lancing’s top-of-the-table clash with Pagham,Arundel’s game at Ringmer, AFC Uckfield v Shoreham and Lingfield v Worthing United are effected.

In Division 2, Dorking v EP, Littlehampton v Oakwood, Wick v Loxwood, Storrington v Westfield, Rustington v Hailsham, Bexhill v Southwick and Little Common v Steyning have all been postponed, as is Mile Oak’s Brighton Charity Cup match against Horsham YMCA.

Ferring’s derby clash with Clymping in Division 3 has also been called off for the second time after the two were meant to play on Boxing Day.

The only County League game to survive is Peacehaven Reserves against Eastbourne Town Reserves.
