County League urges ‘common sense approach’ to postponements

With many of the counties’ pitches still covered in snow, and, after blanket postponements at the weekend, it is likely this week’s midweek’s fixtures will all be called off.

Vice-chairman Steve Nealgrove said “It has been agreed that a common sense approach needs to prevail and we are giving the clubs the opportunity to carry out inspections (where possible), today (Monday) for Tuesday’s games and tomorrow (Tuesday) for Wednesday’s games should clubs feel that the fixture for midweek is in serious doubt of going ahead.

“If due to disruption the match referee (or appointed inspecting SCFL referee) are unable to travel to carry out an inspection then we are prepared to allow clubs to mutually agree to a postponement today or tomorrow without the need for a pitch inspection, but this is only if the visiting club have major travelling concerns.

“If club’s feel that there is a possibility that the pitch could be playable then we would ask that they delay the decision until match day.”

Local fixtures on Tuesday are scheduled as Littlehampton hosting Rustington in Division 2, East Preston taking on Rye in the Sussex Senior Cup (at Worthing FC) and Arundel traveling to St Francis in the John O’Hara Cup.
